Business Phone System Solutions:
Four Problems, Four Answers

Hosted PBX replaces your phone system, SIP trunking keeps the PBX you own and replaces only the carrier lines, number porting moves the numbers you already have, and POTS line replacement retires analog copper without losing your fax, paging, or alarm dialers.
Most bad phone-system purchases are the right product bought for the wrong problem, so start with which of the four you actually have.
Quick Answer

What is the difference between hosted PBX and SIP trunking?

VoIP Services Now is the business phone service run by SRS Networks, a Salinas, California company operating since 1996. Hosted PBX puts your phone system in a data centre, from $11.99 per user per month with a 1-year commitment. SIP trunking keeps the PBX you own and replaces only its carrier connection, usually the cheaper fix when it still works. Number porting moves existing numbers, typically in one to four weeks. POTS line replacement retires analog copper while fax machines, paging, and alarm dialers keep working behind an adapter.

When None of the Four Is the Answer

If your building’s internet is genuinely unreliable and cannot be fixed or replaced, a hosted system moves your phone system onto the thing that keeps failing. Fix the circuit first.

If you run predictive dialling with agent scripting and workforce management, that is a contact-centre platform, not a business phone system.

Frequently Asked

Hosted PBX and SIP Trunking FAQs

What is the difference between hosted PBX and SIP trunking?
Hosted PBX replaces your whole phone system with one run in a provider's data centre. SIP trunking keeps the phone system you already own and replaces only its connection to the outside world. If you have no PBX, you want hosted. If you have one that works, you probably want trunks.
Which one do we need?
Write down what your current phone system fails to do. If the list is long, you need a new system — hosted PBX. If the list is empty and the complaint is the bill, you need SIP trunking. If the only thing stopping you changing providers is the fear of losing your number, start with the porting page.
Can we do more than one?
They are mostly alternatives, but porting is the common step under all of them. Any change of provider involves moving the numbers, whichever direction you go.
Do you push everyone toward hosted because it earns more?
It would be the more profitable habit, and no. If your PBX works, we will tell you that trunking into it is the cheaper answer, and we lose the bigger sale about as often as we win it. A customer who gets talked into replacing a working system is a customer who works out what happened.
